Does God Exist? Ricky Gervais Takes Your Questions - Speakeasy - WSJ

If you didn't already read the original interview you should do that before reading his answers to the follow-up questions. See the previous post or follow this link to the original article.

A Holiday Message from Ricky Gervais: Why I'm An Atheist - Speakeasy - WSJ

If you haven't seen Ricky Gervais's 2010 Science tour I highly recommend it. He does insult just about everybody in his audience but damn he is funny.

In this interview with the Wall Street Journal he talks about his lack of faith. It really is awesome to hear this coming from a well known actor/comedian : ..."People who believe in God don’t need proof of his existence, and they certainly don’t want evidence to the contrary. They are happy with their belief" Read More

The Impossible Voyage of Noah's Ark

This is from the 1983 Creation Evolution Journal by Robert A. Moore:
"Suppose you picked up the newspaper tomorrow morning and were startled to see headlines announcing the discovery of a large ship high on the snowy slopes of Mt. Ararat in eastern Turkey. As you hurriedly scanned the article, you learned that a team from the Institute for Creation Research had unearthed the vessel and their measurements and studies had determined that it perfectly matched the description of Noah's Ark given in the book of Genesis." Read More

“Could existence really be an accident?” –QuestionBox

This is one of the most troubling questions for me: If I am right, what is to come of the people who apparently need religion to be happy? What replaces it for them? The single mother working fifty hours a week, devout grandparents nearing the end, the recovering alcoholic, the illiterate, homeless man who has nothing but the community and love found at his local church? In the battle for ideas, scientists could learn from Christopher Hitchens

SCIENCE VALUES DATA and statistics and champions the virtues of evidence and experimentation. Those of us “viewing the world with a rational eye” (as the new descriptor for this column reads) also have another, underutilized tool at our disposal: rapier logic like that of Christopher Hitchens, a practiced logician trained in rhetoric. Realism and Religion A Physicist Examines the Basis for Belief

What should a scientist think about religion and God? Is there a relationship between belief in religion and the paranormal? Just how far should a skeptic go in challenging the belief systems of the world? Finally, what is the basis for our belief in anything? These are the fundamental questions I will address in this essay that touches on one of the most sensitive issues in skepticism — the relationship between science and religion and the extent to which the scientist should apply his belief in realism to all aspects of our knowledge of the universe. Religion: It’s almost like being in love | Dangerous Intersection

You know how it is when someone is in the first throes of infatuation. We call it “love,” but it’s very different than the kind of relationship that eventually develops. Or doesn’t develop. Read on

Richard Dawkins vs. Wendy Wright, Round 1 Soricidae's Blog

You may have seen this video with Richard Dawkins interviewing creationist Wendy Wright. Soricidae's Blog presents a blow by blow account of part of the interview. It such a good example of how creationists side step issues when confronted with facts of evolution. Dawkins shows amazing restraint.

The Pattern Behind Self Deception

If you are like me you enjoy learning about why we are the way we are. I also find it helpful in understanding why people continue to believe weird stuff.

Science and religion aren't friends

As the non-religious in America grows I think we will increasingly see articles like this in mainstream news media. If you haven't read or in my case listen to Jerry Coyne's book "Why Evolution Is True" I highly recommend it.

What’s The Harm?

The ripple effect of harm that flows from unscientific medical beliefs is multifarious and significant, but often neglected by those who are not familiar with the phenomenon. “What’s the harm” is therefore a question we will have to answer frequently and for the foreseeable future.

My Very First Post

Starting a blog site is not something I would have thought I would ever do. I have two websites and rarely put anything on them. I don't really enjoy writing but have been told I do a decent job.

The main intention of this blog is really to pass on other people's articles, blog posts etc...that I think support my hopes in making this a more rational world to live in.
